I don't think green goes well with that wallpaper. I would do navy blue, or is that dark purple???? If you don't want a dark color then do white, the same color as your trim.

I like the the Cream Puff under it, but can’t say how it’d look with your cabinets and such nearby. If they’re a golden oak color, hard no on Cream Puff. :)

I really like the purple tones in this, maybe one of those? It’s just hard to say without seeing more of the room(s).

I agree, green doesnt really go. If that is navy, it would look good, or if its purple, maybe a purple to match that. I think cream underneath, would match fine, but, I think the wallpaper and that very light color on the bottom, would make the room look top heavy. A darker color would look much nicer.

Whatever color you decide; consider painting out the chair rail to match (Personally, I would paint out the floor board too, but in a level higher sheen). I think it will help in that room if you reduce the horizontal stripey effect as much as possible.

Hi! Just to clarify we are painting the whole room BESIDE this cream puff. So originally I had wanted to do lilac under the red, but as you can see one room from the next I think it will look too Valentine’s Day. I’m wondering if all white would be too stark? And I had also thought navy at first but after being in the room I feel like it would look really dark. But consensus is white is better than green? Figuring we have to do white anyway to cover up the Christmas green so we could always see how we like it.

I feel strongly that any 2 tone wall should have the more intense color on the bottom or the walls seem to "fall in"...lovely wall paper....I would paint the lower part a deep maroon/wine and paint the chair rail the same color as you will paint the living room

Lindac92 I LOVE that idea. Gorgeous colors. We just changed our mind about the living room and instead of doing the extremely light pink we are going with a white. What are your thoughts on painting the chair rail and trim along with the bottom half of the wall? I’m now leaning towards having it all one color.

I think the wine on the lower part of the wall will be lovely, I would use the same color on the chair rail. I also want to say that your room reminds me of a dining room I once had with very similar wallpaper. We painted the bottom in an antique white that matched the adjacent living room. It was lovely and didn't feel top heavy at all. Think about if you want an all dark room next to a white room--is that too much contrast.

Thank you for doing this!! I’ve been playing on the Benjamin Moore website but with one of their images. Can I ask how you made these?

I used the BM tool. It has an option that lets you upload your own photo (you have to set up an account, I think, so it can save the pic). Then you use their tools to define areas (I did the waincot, chair rail, and baseboard as separate areas so I could play with different combinations). That's the most time-consuming part, more so when there is low color contrast between areas. Once it's set up, it's pretty much like using their built-in images--select the area you want to color, pick a color, and the app "repaints" it. The accuracy of the color rendering depends on what assumptions the app made about the amount of shading in the pic, so don't put too much gospel in the specific color. But it can definitely help you decide what direction to go in.

Pain the lower half of the wall the same white as your trim, in an eggshell finish. Consider adding some molding and make it more important, but don’t paint wainscoting anything but white.

The lovey Jacobean wallpaper is your focal point. Treat it as you would a piece of art. If you would like some color below the chair rail, consider a Jacobean side-board (love, love the style) and paint it.

I promised an update. Thanks for your good ideas! Now we just need to get furniture. We are thinking more modern (probably white) table and cane chairs. But taking it slow.

I like that a lot, you went bold and colorful! It looks so traditionally pretty, can’t wait to see your furniture in it. Love the idea of cane chairs. This is a room that makes me think of long, lingering meals, playing games, etc. Very home-y. :)
