How to utilize this entry way?

Scratching my head trying to figure out the best way to use this entry way. We ideally would have somewhere to put jackets, backpacks, shoes, etc and don't really have a mudroom or closet.

Do we put a coat rack, built ins?

Thanks for your input!

Wardrobe, armoire, dresser, hall tree, bench and storage underneath, coat rack, console table, wall hung cupboard, mirror with some hooks, shoe cupboard.......

You could hang some hooks on each side of the door on the wall space there. But - keep in mind, that would visually clutter up that area if you can see coats hanging on the wall there. May matter to you or not - but worth considering. If you don't want that visual clutter - you could probably find some kind of armoire (maybe an Ikea hack?) that could look fairly built-in with hooks in it - but with a door that you can close. You could probably even fashion space for shoes within the wardrobe/armoire - also allowing the doors to close.

Do you need a place to sit and put on shoes or more just about storing the stuff?

Check out this blog - they added cabinetry in their kitchen that they call their "mini-mudroom" which is kind of like what I'm imaging you could do in your space, maybe on a smaller scale depending on how much space you want to take up.

I agree with a wardrobe or other closable storage behind the door, and then you could have a bench where they put the long console (if you remove shoes or live in a region with winter boots). You could do a series of hooks behind the door too, if you live more informally. Or a hall tree.

Ikea has some shoes storage , I would go with something similar with 2-3 units for shoes and high wardrobe cabinet the same style. use sofa table behind the sofa.

    Just idea

I'd go with something like that. Bench and some hooks, possibly a built in.

You have a beautiful home and I appreciate the clean approach you currently have.

To honor your style, I suggest a simple tall armoire where you have the artwork, as others have recommended, in white as it would allow it to recede. Having something too bulky by the door would only draw attention there.

A long bench under the windows with storage underneath (either drawers or simple baskets), would give home to shoes.

I do agree that a large rug as you come in would define the area that will now have more function. Hope this helps!

You don’t need to clutter up your living room with boots, jackets, book bags, etcetera. A shallow but wide armoire or wardrobe closet can take the bulk of guests’ stuff, but most family members may actually enter from the driveway or garage entrance.

Was this originally a porch? I’m guessing from the header and what looks to be sloped ceiling. Maybe you could put a partial walk back in that would give you more of an entryway and a place to store things.

love your style and the modern vibe. I think an antique armoire would look awesome in the space... heres a couple pics of modern with more traditional. i would even suggest more ornate than these pics for major contrast

Your entry js perfect the way it is - only thing I’d add is a beautiful runner and some plants on the table. I agree that family usually enters from the side or back of the house and you could simply find space in another room to store guests coats. The space next to the door looks rather small for an armoire and would be awkward.

That is not the case where I am living, why would you assume that?
