I agree that you can use the piece from your mom. I would though consider using just the bottom piece and move it over to the right so its across from the bed. you could also give it a new feeling by painting it... add a chair to the left of it to use for writing. that way too your entry into the room will open up. I wouldnt put a bench at the end of the bed because your bed shape is nice and curvy and a bench would make it busier.

I did it. Love it! I am so grateful to be able to keep my mom’s piece. And use it. Mom saved for years for an Ethan Allen living room set. This is the last remaining piece of that set. So grateful for the Houzz community. Keep those ideas coming! not quite sure where to center. Have to finalize when I find the chair.

I think I would like a larger bench for style/interest and putting on shoes, throwing a jacket, etc. (hubby has an aversion to hangers. Lol). Any ideas for something larger? Think that would work?

Thank you! iit is very pretty and the wood’s my favorite, Walnut. Wouldn’t want to paint it. Here’s a pic of our sliding glass doors. Thought the bench would go in the middle? Don’t want it too big though. We’ll bang ourselves into it then. Width is 97”.

are you saying you want the bench in front of the sliding door? sorry, I'm not sure I understand? are you thinking you would be walking around it to get out the sliding door. seems like a bit of a traffic hazard?? I could see putting a smaller one in front of the sliding door on the right where the stationary part of the slider is?

Yes. Only need enough room for a body through the slider And don’t want too close to the bed so not hitting it. What do you think of 3 feet wide?

as for a chair, perhaps a simple slipper chair with a fun pattern. I'm thinking you will need a a pretty shallow chair to sit next to the writing desk... how deep is the desk?

heres a 36in bench that you can customize. you might want to measure out 36in in front of the sliding door just to make sure it doesnt impede the walkway
