unexpected wire type

I took a chandelier down yesterday and when I disconnected the feed wires, I nticed they are not standard 14/2. All 3 have white insulation. The hot and neutral are less than 14 guage and the ground is narrower still. Since the house was built for me 20 years ago, everything was wired by pros. Any idea what these wires are?

It's not possibly low voltage powered by a transformer located elsewhere? A picture?

What do you mean by "feed wires." If they're part of the fixture, that's not a problem. If they are the wires coming out of the ceiling, you probably do, unless your disassembly really took apart part of the fixture housing itself (not uncommon that the part that mounts to the ceiling contains the step down transformer/power supply for LED units). This is OK, as the wiring is part of the fixture.

If there is odd cordage run through the ceiling, you DO have a problem.

They were wire-nutted to the lamp cord for the chandelier. Let me delve further, and will post pics. Thanks.

Ok, I feel foolish. It's standard 14 ga. romex that got painted, including the bare copper ground. It was mounted in an adjustable ceiling box, so I removed the box and looked at the wire behind the drywall. I wrapped some black electrical tape around the hot. Problem solved, and my apologies.
