Santa Rosa..oops.

I was thinking purple prickly pear (Santa Rita) lol. I wonder if the Santa Rosa Plum would do well in NE FL. It must be low chill. Its really pretty.

Gulf series of plums such at Gulf Beauty or Gulf Rose will do better in your area. Gulf rose tastes best but needs another Gulf series plum for germination.

Santa Rosa would be short lived due to different air borne diseases.

Just Fruits and Exotics in FL carries it and other plums grafted onto Nemaguard and other nematode resistant rootstocks.

Santa Rosa does very well for me with no disease. I've had mine

for over 10 years.

Santa Rosa is my favorite fruit tree. I never see them in grocery stores. Mine died around the age of forty and I was heartbroken.

I HAVE PLUMS!..lol. I see a few little ones along the branches. I think the Santa Rosa plum is the most delicious fruit i've ever eaten. Mangoes are great,Apricots,...I just put the SRP as best in the world.

We have a Santa Rosa and Satsuma, both are mature. Once they get established you will be inundated with fruit over a short period of time. We get more than we can eat fresh, so we make wine from our excess. The Satsuma makes a red wine and the Santa Rosa comes out like a rose. They both also make a great spicy plum sauce.

Indeed, I always gave away a lot of my plums.

A few years ago,the niece was working a home care for the disabled and the home had a SR Plum in the backyard and the owner said she could take all she wanted.

She brought them by the bags. I ate every one of them. Chilled in the refrigerator..Ambrosia.

I love the taste. My system handled them fine...no "problems".

The short season just makes then even more desirable and huge treat. I notice even the farmers market never had them. So I planted.
