updating bathroom

We're planning on updating one of our bathrooms soon. Tile floor and cabinets are staying (cabinets will be touched up but not repainted). Countertop will be replaced as will the sink and faucet. Also planning on replacing the cabinet drawer pulls and the tp holder and towel bar. Light fixture will be replaced also. I'm not sure if the mirror will be replaced or stay. The cabinets and trim are a true white. Tile is gray leaning toward greige. Thinking of doing a darker gray for the countertop (see pic of samples). Sink would need to be white then. The bathtub which is staying is bisque and so is the toilet. I'm not concerned about the bathtub color as it will be covered by the shower curtain. Would the toilet need to be replaced with a white one?

Not sure what direction to go for faucet and drawer pulls/towel bars. Our other bathrooms and kitchen have oil rubbed bronze and we are not changing those, so would it be best to do oil rubbed bronze for this bathroom also?

I need to choose a paint color for the walls also. Thinking either gray or blue? This is the main floor bathroom and we have various shades of blue or gray-blue as accent colors throughout the main level (navy, denim, slate, chambray). Any suggestions?

The lighting is the first thing I would change. Then you will be better able to see and decide on the countertops. The floors appear tan rather than gray in your photos, so choose a countertop with enough warmth. Yes, change the toilet to a white one to match your new sink. It is a minimal investment. Consider a larger squared sink for your new one, since you have a large countertop and just one sink. You can use ORB fixtures, but you don't need to if you want something different for this room. If the shower/tub fixtures are chrome, I would stick with that to be consistent in the space.

The bottom picture is accurate for floor color. I am not sure why it looks so different in the first two pictures. It seems gray to me but it's probably technically a greige. It is not tan.

@Tracie Craig would something like this work for the countertop? This seems to have a bit of blue in it.

I actually like the current countertop other than the gold accents, but DH would prefer to replace it. If he decides to keep it, would it look ok to change the cabinet pulls and towel bars to something other than gold?

Nice bathroom. What a fun project. Are your cabinets wood? Have you considered putting in a glass insert in the upper cabinet? I think it would look really nice. If you are replacing sink and hardware you might consider a cultured marble vanity top. Quartz or granite are great but has so much waste for the sink cut out. Therefore a prefab cultured marble counter top might be a great choice Perhaps a rectangular sink? There are so many nice options out there that mimic quartz with good color choices. If your cabinets are white you could get by with a veined top. If off white cabinets you could go with a soft grey or your current color. It is okay to mix metals. If you have oil rubbed bronze throughout your home you might want to put those on your cabinets mixed with some glass knobs. But again, it is okay to mix metals. For a real different look you could turn your mirror vertically and install sconces on each side.(depending if that is your only light source or not). You might also consider painting the baseboards and window molding white. These are just a few suggestions that might work for you. Good luck.

It seems to look okay based on that small chip. Be aware that the blue you see in it now may appear much more obvious on an entire countertop.

I would replace all cabinet hardware with oil-rubbed bronze, you can do towel racks, too. Replacing your light will make a big difference.

I guess you can't really tell from the pictures, but the current countertop is blue...sort of a medium blue that's not too bright. I'd call it a very soft navy.. And the tile "rug" is shades of blue also. Alao the lighting in the bathroom is much better IRL

than it looks in the pictures. I don't know why it's so hard to take accurate pictures!

Then you should be okay. A newer counter will certain look much better than the gold-trimmed one you have. The previous owners of your home certainly had a field day with "updates." lol

And a lot of times, pictures will come out better if you take them in natural daylight with the lights off.

Instead of your current light cabinets and dark countertop, consider doing the reverse. A darker color that matches the mosaic (deep tan, expresso, or navy blue) would look great on the cabinets while a very light off white/cream countertop would lighten up the space.

It does seem that previous owners spent a fortune on "updates". They were elderly and some of their tastes definitely reflected that, but some of their updates were pretty nice too, like a dining room add-on with a vaulted ceiling. Our other two bathrooms are really nice and our kitchen is big and nice with hickory cabinets so I can't complain too much overall. We just need to finish getting rid of the wallpaper and paint or remove most of the wainscoting/paneling and finish decorating and I think it will look pretty nice overall.
