onion erectness

Last few years I've grown Southern Belle (short day, purple), and the two foot stalks stand straight up until it is time for them to fall over. This year, I'm growing 1015Y, and the two foot stalks largely fall over at the one-foot level. I assume they'll drop over at ground level when the bulbs are ready (another month or two), but this is somewhat unusual. Is this a recognized characteristic? 1015Ys don't want to fully stand up?
