What to replace side of cabinets with

First time homeowner here, first DIY job I'm undertaking. Took down microwave to put up a hood range. Side of cabinets look horrible and need to be replaced with something. What can I use? I was thinking veneer (but can't find any that match existing cabinets) or maybe plywood/MDF board (and then paint it white to match the tiles?) Any ideas would be helpful!
