His couch or mine???

Open concept living room and my husband and I don’t want to let go of each couch we brought into the marriage (Newlyweds!) His is the recliner couch and mine the cream couch With a chaise lounge. I can’t figure out if I should get rid of both or keep one? i also cannot figure out what coffee Table or side table to use. Help! Also baby #1 on the way so excuse the mess.

Keep both and spend $ on the rest of the decor. Otherwise, get rid of both, and use all your $ for a new one that you both agree on.

Congrats on baby #1. A big no to the bachelor reclining sofa. Oy! Keep the cream sofa with the chaise. Invest in a larger rug. The chaise should sit atop the rug. Get two chairs. A nice large coffee table and updated end tables. You've got a lot of different styles going on there. Trasnsitional sofa, French country end table that isnt to scale and a MCM console under the TV that also needs to be larger. Your rug under the kitchen table is also too small. These are all easy fixes. Get a handle on organization before the baby!

Pretty home. Take your time, no need to rush into selling what you have right now. Make a plan and figure out what you both like for seating. I agree that the TV is hung too high. That's an easy fix. And the console under it is too short. You want the TV to be no more than 2/3'rds of the console length. Like what Beth showed you. One of the others has a good diagram for height based on the right distance for viewing. Hopefully she will come by soon and post it for you.

I’d probably get rid of both. Recliner sofa feels dated and a white sofa with kids is a recipe for disaster. I would get something new.

I felt so sick when pregnant with my kids I hired help for cleaning. Cohoe barely function let alone tidy up. :)

Denita, here are a few charts w/heights/distance placement. This one differs from the 4th one, which is a formula used for HD tv's.

Thanks. Yes we have a hodgepodge of stuff - at some point I’ll reupholstered the dining table chairs and get a bigger rug or remove it all together. We have even more hodgepodge furniture in the bonus room upstairs and the front room ( for another discussion). I’m liking the idea to remove everything and get new furniture. It’s just not meshing like everyone has said. My husband sees no problem and I see a nightmare lol!

What are the style and colors you would like to achieve for the space Sarah?

I love coastal. Blues and neutrals. Some greens

The beige one is a bit sloppy looking while the dark one is too rigid. I'd let them both go and get one you both like, keeping children in mind as you shop for the right style/fabric.

Wait until the baby comes and make sure it’s not vomit-prone like my kids were. We didn’t have any rugs until 3 years ago. Thank goodness the sofas were leather! Got 10 years of wipe-ability!

If you want some kid proof rugs www.ruggable.com has washable ones. We use one in our Kids Kave at the cabin I manage as a vacation rental.
