Color balance issues..

Hi!

I was reading more about colors in painting.

My bathroom has these off white tiles, they look very white-ish, but then when you look closer it does not look super super white. So when they painted my walls this very light gray, it came out looking more blueish.

I was reading this can also be the case with golden-ish colors that are in the room. I will be installing pine wood floors and I do'nt know yet what color the staining will be. But I'm currently choosing paint colors for walls and looking at this color here called Reflection (jotun paint). It's a white-gray, very light gray. It's got a bit of a warm undertone and this could be brought out too much in a pinkish way if anything kind of golden colored is paired with it. Or if I choose a more neutral gray like I did in the bathroom (and I might do in bedrooms too), it could once again look blue which I want to avoid. I want the grayish colors to look gray not pink or blue-ish etc.

So what color staining would work on the floors then?

I also read that pine floors already have a yellowish tint to them--is this gonna read yellowish anyway no matter what staining color I do?

Why do you have to pick paint colors now? Can’t you do so once the floors are done? Also, you make no mention of other hard surfaces selections like countertops, tile, etc and soft furnishings. All of those elements need to be taken into the equation in order to select the perfect white. Which is the hardest color to do right btw.

I have to choose paint now cause the contractor Im finishing with has to do it asap. The final coat of paint is when floors are done. Then the will paint the trim of the windows and doors. not sure I understand the logic either but i am in Egypt and it is different here. I did not buy furniture yet btw. Place is empty. But the vision in my head is very light muted grays

What paint manufacturer does your contractor work with? Best to get that manufacturers colors and take them to your site and look at with your other hard finishes.

yes i will do that. I'm asking about color balance rules with pine colored floors

The color on the sample cards and the names mean nothing when choosing a color. To know what it will actually look like will depend on the color of the vanity, tile, and different times of the day as this will affect the color the most. Your contractor doesn’t need you to pick the color at this point in the process. After the floors and vanity are in you can pick the color, he will order from Sherwin Williams or another brand. I’ve built 5 new homes over the years and this has always been the process.

That being said, if you are building in a new neighborhood where one builder is building multiple homes; DRHorton as one example, this could be the company’s policy.

Enjoy your new home, it’s only paint and can, and most likely will, be changed several times through the years.

Ok. The flooring for my entryway and hallway are already installed (tiles). The bedrooms and living and dining still have not had their wooden flooring installed. Should I paint my entryway and hallway now since the floors are there? Or do I wait also til the wood flooring for the rooms are done too.

Usually all painting is done at the same time and last but really this is all up to you and your contractor. Post photos of your entryway and hall for us to comment any further....
