What kinds of stuff will you want in the rec room? Function first...you going to want video gaming? Foosball? Exercise space? You have young'uns that need toys/storage/play area? You want a bar to sit at in the wet bar area? Or are you going to want more adult space for sitting and relaxing and conversing and maybe reading corner?

Floors are already heated, so we are covered there. We planned for this when we built 3 years ago with the heated floors, plumbing stubbed, etc. Activities will primarily be adult, TV watching, movies, conversations etc. Both bedrooms are guest rooms, so I also think of this as a guest suite. In the heat of summer, we may sleep and spend more everyday time down there. Ceiling height will be just under 9’.

Depending on the guests you entertain, you may want one room with a king bed and one room with twins. Unless you have a lot of guests in which case you may want some built-in bunks which for some reason always look so cozy to me.

Annie, that’s exactly what I was thinking. We live at a ski resort so we will have visiting friends with kids as well as couples and groups of my girlfriends. I love the looks of built in bunks and will think about that idea. DGS would love bunks.

I don't know how they do it, but on the river cruise boats they always had beds that could be pushed together to make one king sized bed or separated into two twins. I always thought that flexibility would be best. While we've had married couples stay in our guest room, we also have had, eg., my uncle and his son who were happy to have twins.
