You are almost there! I like what you have done so far!

Just off the top of my head: large scale art over the couch with color, and mid mod accent tables and coffee table. Drapes can blend with the wall to set off the chairs.

For more quirkiness, search end table alternatives in Houzz or online. An end table or coffee table can be a trunk, vintage suitcases, stools, or carts.

There is an HGTV show called "Good Bones." HGTV.com will have photos from their before/afters. They use quirky art with mid mod or eclectic furnishings.

I will see what Houzz has too.

I love the suggestion for adding in the unexpected tables! I haven’t found any art that i like enough to put over the couch. I also have a wall of art that I’m afraid it will be too much?

:) I like the end table and lamp! I also like the window blind, very clean and simple. You can add 2 drapery panels to soften, or leave as is.

The bookcase? looks good. For symmetry on the sides of the couch you can add a cool floor lamp on the other side.

One of the beautiful things about this style is that you don't need a lot of "things" to make it beautiful. Take your time with a large scale art piece over the wall. FYI You could also do a gallery wall with smaller pieces. You are almost done!

Hi! Nice room. Is that the frint door? If so, I would think about switching the picture shelves with the credenza + mirror. It might make more srnse, as you would have a surface to put down your keys etc as you come in.

it is hard to tell from the angles of the pictures, but can you couch away from the wall more into the room without it looking weird as you walk in from the kitchen?

Gorgeous space and furnishings. Is the rug too large to run the other direction? That way you could have the chairs on it and it will feel more like a conversation area. I would move the shelves away from the sofa as far as possible, maybe even elsewhere. I think it throws the balance off on that wall.

You also have a lot of legs. I think I'd look for a table without legs for between the chairs.

Everyone, i love the suggestions. I’m not going to get my feelings hurt, I truly want this room to make sense. Too many legs - I never noticed that but so true! I’ll see what I can do to make it less so. The rug - the rug came in and I realized I should have gotten the 10’ instead of 8’ :( so I’m making it work as much as I can. It won’t fit if turned the other way. I was sad that the chairs didn’t fit on it. Regarding couch position - if I move it away from the wall it may look strange walking in from kitchen. The house is quirky, I know. Marta - that is the front door. My thought process was that you’d look at a wall of art while sitting on the couch. Behind the blinds is a large picture window and I was going to install drapes high near ceiling. Another member talked about symmetry of the room so I was looking into floor lamps. I put a tree there to create illusion of floor lamp. So is the general consensus to switch art wall with table/mirror duo?

Before you do that, since you can't turn the rug, what about having the couch along the window, with its front legs on the rug and the chairs where the couch is now with both of them on the rug. (put the rug almost to the wall under them). You could still have a large piece of art on that wall behind the chairs.

If you don't care for that idea, at least pull the rug all the way under the couch where it is now, not just the front legs. It's plenty big enough to do that and will give you more walkway from the door.

If you don’t have “sliders” you can get at Lowes or Amazon. Makes moving furniture a breeze and protects wood floors and rugs and carpeting.

Love the color of your chairs in this room! And the picture ledges with your art flow nicely with the colors in your area rug. I also think the cellular shades are a good choice. You move fast, girl!

I hope Flo’s floor plan works for you. It seems it would give you a cozier conversation area and therefore, perhaps, that feeling of home that you are wanting. I’ll be watching for updates, as I’m feeling that same need now that I’ve leaned into MCM.

Alright, I’m on it.

After moving the console table behind the couch, it made the room feel crowded. I tried the side table in two spots. I don’t have any place to put the bookshelf for now so it’ll have to stay for the time being. I LOVE the cozy feel of the conversation area and it facilitates conversation so much more. I’m ordering a bench and drum accent table for between the chairs. The space above the couch is missing art but that will take time.

I would try turning the rug...can you? then move the end table to window side (shifting everything to the right) That will give you more room for the bench and not look so crowded. Loving your room!

If your coffee table is accessible from the sofa (18”?), then I wonder if you need the square end table. What do you think?

Great job! Switch bookcase to left side of front window if it fits. That could possibly be a “drop zone” piece. It might even work as a room divider and create a bit of an entry. Move plant to right side of sofa. It feels much better from here too!

By room divider I mean place narrow end to wall and front side to entry. I think that could work well. Not sure what the back looks like but we can solve that issue if it works.

I can't say I saw every layout posted, but not bad the one with plant at left, and tall unit at right... I looked again, and 4 people 'liked' - with art over sofa...

Personally, I see no reason to switch mirror and shelving...

@everdebz, the colors are spot on from the first one I liked - the print however is not my style.

New layout is great. Would you be open to mi ing the coffee table 15-18” from the couch and then getting a round table for between the chairs. Someone with a soldi base ( no legs).

Yes, i moved the table so it was closer to the couch and ordered a drum type accent table for the chairs. I removed the cable knit throw (which was purchased more for comfort than decor) and ordered a new throw. I’m looking for throw pillows to pull chair color into couch. Love the help, everyone. Very appreciated.

No disrespect intended here, everdebz. You’re probably too young to remember, but for me that green lamp shade with the yellow-gold chairs is a flashback to the 70s. I know it’s back, but I personally cannot re-live that. lol I think the green plants are good accents, though.

that was an avocado green. This with the mercury glass seems all updated to me.... no problem. The shade is a strong green and if a different shade, better.

Yes, I have read that. And it was avocado. I lived in a townhouse that had everything in those colors, and they were great at the time. However, they are like fingernails on a chalkboard for me now. lol
