Chalk Paint Remover

I made the mistake of using black chalk paint on a kitchen table. It was not sealed. The chalk paint is peeling off. I want to just remove it, but I don't want to damage the cream wood underneath. Can anyone suggest a chalk paint remover that won't damage the surface underneath? Thank you!

I have heard that awesome spray from the dollar store sprayed on and then use steel wool, will remove the chalk paint. However, steel wool might just scratch the finish underneath, you are trying to save. Maybe see if a wash cloth that is a bit rough, would work, to scrub it down with the awesome. Leave the awesome sprayed on for 10-15 minutes before scrubbing it.

Hot water and ammonia with a microfiber. Chalk paint is evil and not at all durable.
