Really modern windows don't usually have trim. More so a drywall return. On the door, you can stain the casing to match the door and use a more modern (flatter and larger) casing for that.

You can also could do returns on the doors or paint the trim to the wall color. Drywall returns may or may not save you money. Why use a paint to look like stain vs stain unless the doors are not wood? I would get the doors pre finished if possible.

You can do no trim door jambs but they do not save money because the drywallers need to be very good at their job to do them right .

Thanks, I’m just concerned that with the drywall returns— they will get scratched or dented. Are they prone to wear and tear?

They are not more prone to damage compared to any other drywall corner in your home. Really depends family to family. In your current home, how are all your wall corners? That might be a good indicator on how these will work for your family. Hope this helps!

IMO a drywall return is avery nice finish but a lot depends on your style and modern industrial can certainly handle it.

I personally love wood stained doors with painted trim. But I think the success with that look lies in committing to walls that match the trim.
