I forgot to mention the opening is for a 36 inch refrigerator and I would like it to be counter depth if not a built in

I have had a stainless steel KitchenAid counter depth French door refrigerator for 8 years in a vacation rental and it's very serviceable. Like many refrigerators, the ice maker doesn't work great anymore, but it keeps the food cold and the freezer food frozen. It protrudes about 3" from the cabinets but looks way nicer than the deeper ones. Keep in mind that it will not hold as much as a regular depth fridge.

Samsung frigs have been one of the least recommended on this forum. Multiple repeated failures have been reported. . . . I'm interested in the fairly new Bosch French door counter-depth models. They're now building them themselves. They have dual compressors not just evaporators and a new type of ice maker with a more dependable mechanical release method for the cubes. Here.

I have a new counter depth French door Bosch refrigerator and am very happy with it. Bought it in November for $2789 and it was on back order until mid February. Availability is something to check on. The box said “Made in China” but the Ferguson associate said they are built in North Carolina. Either way, manufacturing is bound to be impacted right now.

No pot filler one of the most useless things in a kitchen. Get a proper hood for the range , you will be limited to what you can put where the old fridge is . Samsung does not have great reviews often , appliances do not have to match each other either. The whole point of new appliances is to get what functions for how you live. I only one time had a sxs fridge and found the freezer way too small. I have a Bertazzoni all gas range I love but have ni experience with their fridges. Builtin fridges are nice I guess I have a Fridgidaire all fridge all freezer with built in kit you might want to look at something like that to save money. BTW if the box says made in China that is where it is made.Right now is probably not a good time to buy appliances since where I live appliance stores are not considered essentil and you really need to talk to a good sales person and see the pieces in real life. BTW you lose very little storage in a counter depth fridge .

Have you read the reviews for Samsung fridges? I know 4 people who have nothing but problems with their Samsung refrigerators. And with Technology constantly updating, how long before the hub is obsolete? If the fridge even lasts that long.

I have a Samsung otr microwave, it’s a giant pos, and I haven’t had it a year. My co-worker has has 4 service calls on her Samsung stove in the past 6 months.

Sansung should stick to cell phones and tvs.

Even the appliance salesperson told us not to get a Samsung. Watch the size you purchase carefully because your spot looks small like mine. We did not have a lot of choices. So far we are happy with the Whirlpool but have only had it a month.

I did a total gut of my kitchen 7 years ago. With a prior back injury, the bottom freezer is much better than I ever expected. Side by sides just do not use space as efficiently in our experience. I have a second sink so no water or ice on the outside of the fridge. Internal icemaker is pooched (even after repair dude tried to fix it)- Samsung; would not buy again. The second sink is another surprise as we use it for beverages, washing hands etc many times daily. Instead of a pot filler, I put the pot on the counter between sink and stove and pull down the spout; bingo.

No experience yet, but for my new build I've selected the Bosch counter depth refrigerator. I like that it has two compressors and looks very clean; almost built in.

My brand new Bosch 800 counter depth dream refrigerator is currently sitting uninstalled in my family room due to my contractor being shut down...still has the tags and protecive covering on it, and I have no eta as to when it will be hooked up :(

Look at Liebherr. We have had three of them at different properties and have been very happy. They have dual compressors.

Counter depth is 24" deep. Some manufacturers call models counter depth when they are not. Check the depth measurement.

The number one repair item on fridges is the ice maker, and the through the door dispensers.

As noted above, a side-by-side freezer is very narrow. I think you would be surprised how handy the freezer drawers are.

While you mentioned the 36" width, you did not mention the height. Unless you are planning to remove the cabinets currently above the fridge, you will be limited to the height that the current fridge is, or less, in order to fit that space. Fridges today tend to be taller than your older fridge. For example, the Liebherr that Latifolia recommends, in the 36" width, is about 80" tall. But the Bosch french door 36" width, which I recommend, is about 70" tall.

You can go online at websites like ajmadison, and search fridges by height. Remember to include the door hinges at the top. After you have found fridges that will fit height-wise, then you can narrow them down by brand.

Final notes - you definitely do not need to match brands to your stove. Also Bertazzoni that you pictured is a company known almost entirely for its ranges, and lately those have declined in quality. They are not really a refrigerator manufacturer the way Bosch and the Whirlpool companies are, so I would avoid. And, say no to a pot filler in your kitchen.

Bottom freezer fridges are both more energy efficient and have more freezer storage. Get a single-drawer freezer version, most of which have a pullout toward the top for smaller items. Bosch and Kitchen Aid both have nice options.

Some advice I've found valuable is don't shop for any certain brand. Best to shop for features and price that fit you best.

That newfangled Bosch ice maker sounds like the FlexTray that Whirlpool introduced in the 1970s.

It seems to be a flex tray with a specific shape of cube as part of the design for success.

Thank you all for your suggestions, I’ve looked into kitchenaid and Bosch and I really love the look of the KA 5 door refrigerator (reminds me of the subzero pro 48 which I will never buy) although It is not even close to counter-depth and would stick out quite a bit. but with the extra money, I could have the wall space where the fridge is cut out and have and have it pushed back to be able to fit it flush with the cabinetry. What do you guys think?

Also, I need help picking hardware for the cabinets. I like long chrome handles but not sure if they work in this kitchen with the arched top cabinets. I also know that i want to use some nice cup pulls on the drawers. I either like chrome or brass. Any ideas on which finish and what hardware I should use for the doors?
