Help! Empty space in kitchen

What can I put on this wall to fill some of the empty space? Right now the dog’s bowls are there but those can be moved. I was thinking maybe a shelf with plants/small items? Ignore the furry companion, she loves to be in photos haha.

A tall bookcase would be my choice.

What color would you go with? Wood or white like the cabinets?

I would leave that space empty. Your dog is adorable!

I would go with wood. White would work fine too. And yes, doggo is adorable :-)

Haha thank you guys! She is as spoiled as they come. I think I may try a wood bookshelf. Worried white may be too much.

AnnKH, that's true. The wall just looks so bare to me, but maybe I am just overthinking it and should leave it alone for now haha.

I would hang a piece of art in that space.

That’s not an Empty Space. It’s just a space. It doesn’t need anything. Maybe an art piece on the wall, not too big.

I love love love the white curtains. I’m a sucker for plain white semi sheers. Even better is having them flutter in a light breeze with the window open. Ahhhhh.

Thanks Little Bug! I'll see if I can find any artwork that I like, though not sure what would look right in a kitchen...any ideas?

And thank you!! I love the curtains as well. Took me weeks to decide which ones to go with. I was leaning towards a cream but glad I went with the white! They're a little too long but I guess the pooling isn't so bad.

black and white family pictures in white frames.

I like the idea of artwork as well. Maybe 6 botanical prints stacked 3 over 3.

There are lots of downloadable options available on Etsy.

    Katinparadise, those are beautiful!!

What about something like this? Too bland?

They could work if you use a black frame to be sure they stand out from the wall a bit. I just thought it might be pretty to bring in a bit of color. What accent colors have you used in the rest of the house?

None really! I've gone very neutral. Lots of creams, grays, and some hints of black. The only thing colorful in the kitchen is a blue orchid, which I need to move because I think it's in a bad spot. It's sitting on top of the island for now.

I do have some blues in my family room pillows, which opens up to the kitchen, but I haven't done much accenting with those colors. I'd like to, just don't know where to start!

Cute doggie. Have you considered adding a pet feeding station/cabinet with pic of family pooch above it?

Alternately, you might consider a rolling cart for that space -- something you could move to where you need it and, perhaps, w/shelving spaced for the bottom space to be used as a pet feeding station.

Do you already have a dedicated cabinet w/wheels for your trash can?

How about a raised feeder for your cute pup. It is actually recommended to raise bowls for larger dogs. Here is one, but they come in all different price ranges.

If you hang a grouping of prints, I would arrange them so the height of the collection is greater than the width. Alternatively, you could hang a single, large piece of vertically shaped art.

I’d bring color into this corner with art.

It is actually recommended to raise bowls for larger dogs.

This is actually a bit controversial, and there are a lot of recommendations *against* raised bowls for large and giant breed dogs, due to an increased risk of bloat. I encourage everyone to do their own research, taking into consideration their dog's breed, sex, age, diet, and eating habits (if you have a leisure-eater, there's less concern; if you have an always-starving-inhaler, there's more concern).

To the OP: I totally agree with the folks who say to put up some colorful art, family photos, or leave the space blank. A baker's rack might also be an option, if ya just gotta fill the space. :-D

Yeah I’ve never been a fan of raised bowls. She’s a very leisure eater, and it’s rare that she even eats at her bowl. She takes a mouthful and eats it in the living room lol She’s also not a large breed. I say medium at the biggest. She’s almost 6 months and only 35lbs. She’s a rescue so we have no clue what breed she is! All of her adult teeth are in and they’re not big at all.

Think I will try some photos! A bookshelf may make it look too cluttered.

Also love your curtains. would you mind sharing the paint color of walls? it’s a beautiful and tranquil space.

Function_first, thanks! I hate the wall color most of the time haha but it’s the only one the builder offered. It has a slightly yellow undertone, depending on the light. It’s Shell White by Sherwin Williams. I hope to change it one day!

    Doggie is so cute. :)

I like the suggestions of putting art there.

You mentioned about adding some color, and I hope I’m not overstepping, but what about a rug? When I saw your pillow, and you mentioning blue, I thought of this one:

Or (and these aren’t to scale) ...

    Jinx,

That rug is super pretty!! I may consider that for my family room to match the pillows. Right now I just have a cream/gray rug.

    Mdln,

I LOVE that flower art. Where'd you find that?!

May not be large enough for the space. Amazon has a lot of inexpensive art.

Off the kitchen space topic and about the dog (since serving height was brought up): You might try setting out multiple feeding bowls, each with part of his usual food but one on the floor and the other(s) raised to see which one the dog likes.

How about either of these? They're 8x10 prints. I was thinking 2 rows of 3.

Ashley, both of those are pretty options. I also saw a bit of blush pink in your pillow. You could do something like this.

Or keep it neutral with whites.

a nice piece of art on the wall and get some fancy dog dishes maybe on a stand.. not every wall needs to be filled..

Less is more. The empty floor space makes your room seem luxurious. Like others, I would bring color with a coordinating rug and wall art.

Since I don't think dog bowls are particularly attractive or appetizing to look at (but necessary to feed your cute pooch), I might put a wood table there, like a small console or something that would kind of hide the bowls without interfering with access. Then place art above that.

or if you do want to raise the bowls a tiny bit, a bar cart with a low shelf would be really cute there:
