Yes, you'll love it! Are you planning for a window treatment? That will add a layer of coziness you may feel you're losing with removal of the china. Don't forget the art - it will amuse diners and be a great entry pop as people come into the foyer.

Round would be fantastic! Keep the radial design going.. You already have the Chandler and arch (that kind of relates to a circle). Keep it going with a round table.

I had a similar situation and I decided to switch the dinning and living room areas. We had to move the chandelier. Since we rarely used the formal living room, the move gave us more room for dinning.

I do agree with going with a round table but you may also want to choose oval. I like your hutch and it is useful for storage. I suggest taking down the blinds on the window. This will give you more light in the room. Drapes are hard to find for arched windows. Let your window be a focal point. Since your hutch is of the older style update the table you choose and use fabric chairs for texture and color. One more idea. Spend a little extra and go for a more transitional looking chandelier.

I would like to keep the china cabinet, but there's barely room to move around the table as it is. Would it be strange to move the china cabinet to the foyer wall and treat the foyer/dining room as one area? If I do that, I will have two large pieces of furniture on one wall and artwork on the opposite wall (see photos of open area).

I don't think a round table is any better. You still end up needing a bigger room. A round table does allow everyone talk to each other. It looks like you could extent to a slightly longer rectangle table into the living room without to much difficulty. I think that would work better.

I saw the cabinet in the foyer the first time I looked at your room and love that one and it has a nice home right there. It totally makes sense to treat that area as part of the dining room since there is such flow. I cannot tell what you have in that piece now. Any chance THAT could become your china cabinet and maybe you would find a table that goes with that piece?

Just wondering if your current china piece comes apart and has a top and a bottom to it. Another option would be to put the bottom of it in the entry and still have that storage, but then you would have the top to treat as an entry area and maybe a mirror over it.

I like the idea of a round to oval table as well. Maybe find better china cabinet option..corner ones to make room..here's an idea..

Your house is beautiful and warm to the eye. Let me ask you - is the hutch all one piece. If not you could take the top part off and use the bottom as a buffet. Some tall thin lamps on each side with a decorative mirror between them would be a great look. Also removing the top of the hutch will modernize the room. If you buy a new chandelier it is simple to move it over on the ceiling with a longer chain - a simple swag. Now you may think this will look bad. I suggested this to a client and it helped her move the table out from her hutch. It gave her a new center to the room. A few inches can make all the difference. One more suggestion. Avoid tablecloths and let the wood table be the richness in the room. Happy to talk with you.

The chairs or similar as seen in the inspiration DR pic would fit in quite nicely with the rest of yr furniture '
i understand about the hutch not fitting the space when you bring in the round table.
I think you will need to measure first the size of a round table or oval table (someone mentioned this as an alternative) that will fit the space comfortably along with the chairs.
Once that has been determined then you can decide what to do with the hutch.
If it's a bottom and top hutch you may be able to place the bottom part in front of the window given that there is sufficient space

A round table that extends to oval if needed would be ideal. I hope that you can remove the top part of the cabinet and place the bottom part in the entry. I don't think it will look right having two large cabinets on that wall.
You could put the round table so, that it extends from left to right (imagine turning the current table 1/4). Or you could move the china cabinet and turn the current table 1/4.

Love the single pillar on this table: Maybe look for something similar. It will keep your seating arrangement open.

Round tables are so great because you can really smoosh in a lot of chairs.. or just do 4 or 5. Not matter what round tables are great for communication. People aren't limited to the person next to them or the person directly across from them.
You might have one point of the circle next to your hutch.. But unless you constantly seat 8 people I wouldn't worry about it.

The hutch does come off. When my husband gets home, I'm going to ask him to help me rearrange the furniture. Also, I removed the table cloth. Much nicer! Thanks for the advice everyone! I'm truly grateful!

I've put my dining set on Craigslist & will be purchasing the Ethan Allen table recommended by Carolins. That will take a while so I thought I'd work on the window treatments. I found a couple I liked surfing the Internet. Will one of these work?

Oh I'm so glad you like that table. I only know it from the photo here on Houzz, but have always loved it. It's the two colours that do it for me. Gorgeous. And it will look so beautiful under your chandelier. I'll be looking forward to the 'after' photos ;-)

I think the curtains in the left picture will be nice. The other ones will 'pop' too much for my liking. Attract too much attention I think.

Love this idea! Or a square table that seats 8 people----two chairs on each side! And yes, remove the cabinet. You can place a lovely tall "lean mirror" which is a mirror that just leans up against the wall and sits on the floor. this is a very chic look and will make the space seem bigger and not so bare either. the chandelier can be moved by an electrician to get it centered. It needs to be centered.

What do you guys think about the chairs & server to go with the Ethan Allen table.

Hi again - You won't believe it but I bought the same table for my son and daughter-in-law about a year ago. It is a beautiful table and opens up to hold 8-10 people. One thing you may want to consider is it will take up a lot of space. It may cause some issues when adding in a buffet table or hutch. I have attached a picture of a chair that will also compliment the style of the table.

3sons1 - I was also looking at chairs similar to the ones you suggested. I was going to place the buffet on the wall in the foyer. Do you think I should rethink the style of the buffet as well? Thanks so much for your help! -- Lori

The table is more modern/country in style. If you can place the buffet in the dining room that is my choice, but the foyer is a good idea too. Here are some pics of buffets I think will also go well with the table. Good Luck!

It's good to hear people actually having good experience with the EA table. I like the three buffets that 3sons1 posted. They are a similar style to the armoire that's on the same wall.
You could 'draw' the shape of the EA table on the dining room floor with painters tape, see how much space it takes up. Or use (news)paper and sticky tape to make the shape and lay it on the floor. Will give you a rough idea whether it will fit easily.

Instead of a buffet in the foyer, what about something like this? I need a place to store table linens & such.

Yay! My painted chest came in yesterday! The painting does not go so I'm thinking maybe a mirror. Also, the surface area is much larger than I expected so I'm thinking maybe one lamp and a large arrangement similar to the one in my photo. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I made the leap & purchased these toffee drapes from Ballard Designs - they also come in Sage. Do you think the toffee drapes are too dark next to the green walls? I love the drapes but not sure if the color works. Should I try them in Sage?

Actually, the table in the photo is from my breakfast nook. It's 48", the one on order from Ethan Allen is 60". I can't wait to get it! This has been so much fun but is taking sooo long!
