Is your check valve working correctly? Are all gutters and downspouts sending water well away from house? Could outlet pipe be broken somewhere?

It's normal if you have rain and high seasonal ground saturation. If you hear the water is coming in and the pump is working it works as it should.

You wrote , water is being discharged 2 feet away and that never happened in four years....find out why water is being discharged within 2 feet. That water maybe percolating into the sump.

There is a T on the exterior that passes through a footing... on the exterior of the footing the perforated pipe is used... the pipe that goes through the footing or under which connecting to the pit is solid, therefore if you have any water accumulation under the slab, the water will enter the pit through the holes in the pit and not the solid pipe which is penetrating the pit itself.
