Thanks for the input. The trim is actually a cream color and storm door is dark brown. The porch and railing are going to be replaced with composite so can't paint exactly the color I might want.

Will the house look too wide and plain without shutters? And if we keep them, what more subtle color might work to draw the eye to the front door?

Remove the shutters entirely. Paint the front door the same reddish brown of the storm door trim. Then get a composite railing same reddish brown. Get large new numerals that match finish of storm door hardware. Add a much larger sconce in a copper tone.

You have nice and big windows, that do not need any shutters.

So it sounds like shutters do not work? Before we replaced the front door, it was red and the exterior was more serene. But I found it boring and was wanting a bright color to mix things up. Do all agree the green is not good even if all shutters are removed?

Definitely better without shutters. Have your roof cleaned then pick a decking color close to the roof color or a bit darker. I would try more of a blue green for your front door, and paint the storm door the same color to match.

I am probably in minority but I would do shutters on The left side that are the correct size for the windows ie wider not brick colored and leave off the shutters to the right. I would stain the deck a darker Brown. Clean the roof up and maybe landscape the front to make it more inviting. Good luck

I agree no shutters. They are wrong for the house. I like the idea of a brown door to match the screen. Brown for the deck, too. Prune the rhododendron. It is getting too tall. Add more landscaping closer to the road. Wash the roof.

Thank you all for your 'eyes' on our home. In defense of our roof, it is in great shape but that pic was taken when it was drying after frost or rain. It dries unevenly because of the inside configuration of the ceilings, stair, etc.

I keep thinking of options. Perhaps remove shutters on large window on right and paint the others a mocha brown to harmonize with the soon to be rebuilt deck/porch and railings and keep the moss green door OR does that bright door NOT work no matter what? I love how bright it is I guess and hate to paint over it.

If you like the idea of shutters, think about getting some that fit. Each shutter should be wide enough to cover 1/2 the window. Without having to buy custom though, look for shutters that are at least 18" wide.
