I have photos of other sofa and chair in the room! Please help me. Don’t know whether to do a large pattern rug or something more simple. The rug currently down in the room isn’t big enough. Thank you!

Pretty chair! A few questions, since there are so many choices of rugs out there:

What is your budget?

Do you have a preference for the materials (100% wool, mix of wool and synthetic, all synthetic, etc)?

Do you prefer certain styles — traditional, transitional, modern, other?

I’m a big fan of mixing patterns, so think that’s definitely an option for you, if you’d like. Sometimes more pattern can balance a room nicely ... when the rest of the furniture — bigger pieces — are very neutral with only one patterned piece (chair, in this case). Gives an interesting look. Solids or very subtle patterns can obviously be calming and more monochromatic. Just personal preference as to the feel you want in there, plus context (adjoining rooms, for instance).

For examples, I did these quick mock-ups ... traditional/transitional style, warmer tones (pulling colors from the chair), patterns. If you feel they’re too warm, too traditional, too patterned, whatever, then we can all look in a different direction!

It’s a very pretty rug ... I’m wondering if it might be a bit too similar in pattern to the chair. So hard to tell without seeing in person.

I think they’re both lovely, but it is a very bold pattern. It’s hard to tell from the mock-ups of this rug because it skewed the pattern to look larger. It might look much better and “quieter” in person.

Looking at #6 further, it might be a bit more gray-toned than it shows in the mock-up. It’s hard to tell on computer monitors sometimes.

But take a look around, that site allows you to do mock-ups of rugs in your room. Rugs USA, eSaleRugs, and several others do, too. :)

How would an abstract grid or stripey pattern picking up just 1 or 2 colors from the chair look? Allowing the chair to be the star? Or a burnout abstract with more of the colors in the chair?

I don’t know what a burnout abstract is. 🙄

Well I probably used the wrong term, then. I’m no designer, I was just thinking texture and color without such bold design in the rug so the chair could be the star. I was thinking maybe in this style, but you’d need to search for colors represented in the chair.

I wanted to show one more, because it’s very similar to that bold blue one you like up there ... but a little more subtle. It comes in 4 colors, but I like this blue the best. It’s got a very subtle difference in blue tones than your chair, which in this case, I think works better than matching too closely. They don’t compete, but rather compliment each other. It allows the chair to be the dominant accent.

(Again, keep in mind that mock-ups can skew the patterns to look bigger.)
