This was Sikens Cetol SRD 077 Cedar. Sikens has been sold to PPG but the product line is the same. It is a semi-transparent stain and is applied in one coat (if you do to many coats at once it will become sticky). It can be purchased at most good paint stores and is now carried by Home Depot. The finish will only last a couple years before it needs a re-coat but it shows all the grain of the wood.
