The Bamboo iris is a favorite of mine. I can grow in shady location with some sun. The flowers are beautiful and they can be propagated easily. I will warn you that the plants can get a bit raggedy and need some care. They are not common and Annies is one of the sources. I live in Shoreline, WA and shopped at Annies when we lived in the Bay area. The iris are great for containers and can be kept in them for years. Be sure to pick up some snail bait and use it on your plants. They can be tidied up after blooming, but the new blossom branches come out of the fans, so don't prune all of the off. If you want to make more plants, when you trim them, poke the fans with an inch or so of the stem into moist soils and they will root right from the bottom of the fan. Here are two of my Confusas.

Ditto the above!! In fact, my own bamboo iris was gifted to me by the very sweet lady that wrote that post! Just now coming into bloom and the sprays of iris flowers look like delicate lavender orchids. One of my favorite shade garden plants :-)
