does anyone have experience with the Wolf Contemporary cooktop?

This is the 36 “ cooktop with controls in front (like a stovetop), 5 burners with a larger one in the middle. I like the looks of it and the fact that it provides more cooking space than most 36 “ cooks tops, but I don’t know of anyone who has it.

Sure, I have one, I bought it 2 years ago.

What would you like to know?

The cook top sits "on" the soapstone, instead of "in" the soapstone.

We placed some weather stripping under the flange on the 2 sides and the front, in case of a liquid spill getting under the edge and dripping into the drawer underneath.

The low setting works well. For a large Dutch oven it's almost on the lowest setting, to keep the pot from boiling, but it works.

The re-start feature works. We have a door close enough, if the wind blows too strong to blow out the flame, the stove re-lights itself.

We use mostly ss pots and pans, whatever the grates are made of, it is not slippery, which is nice.

Although, the grates are heavy, it's not a big deal to clean.

The differences between the different models, are just the colour (yes, Canadian) of the knobs. We received 2 sets of knobs; the red wich is the standard colour, and we had chosen the black knobs, which if memory serves is the contemporary.

I have it also installed about 6 months ago. Happy with it like the knobs in front, clean lines, the midsize burners run a bit loud I guess regular for them. And stainless need to be ontop of cleaning, my old gas range had black pans and this is more work. But I put a lot of thought into new kitchen and really like how it fits. Good luck. Brent B what do you clean your grease spills with ?

Thank you both for your thoughts. A couple more questions: For the front where the knobs are, is is necessary (or a good idea) to have a panel made of stainless or a thin slab of say quartz under the knobs? Also, what is “s/s” cleaner? And Lisa, what do you mean by the midsize burners running a bit “loud.”

Again, thanks for time. I really appreciate it!

Julie , I don't think that is necessary or in the manual guide for install to do that. My builders had input from where we bought appliances and cabinet makers and thoroughly reviewed Wolf instructions. It is just the gas coming out is louder then the other two. The technician said it is completely normal ! But the way its built the gas makes a bit more sound when coming out of those tow burners. I understand I loved having help, and getting opinions. It really is a sleek unit I don't think there is anything else out there with that " look". plus it is bigger then most drop in units.

Ok, now I understand. Thank you. I live on an island so I don’t have easy access to see touch and feel most of the appliances I’m ordering so some of the selections are based on reviews and comments. Your comment about the pan made of stainless and more difficult to clean than the traditional black pans caught my attention as it’s very humid here and everything rusts.

I too live on an island.

    s/s = stainless steel

    Ha! Duh. Thanks, Brent.

lol Vancouver island ? The pans black that I had before with range where still made our of metal. I think the Blue Star is cast iron all the way but that an entirely different beast. A pro range top. I think many are SS. Julie I did lots and lots and lots of looking so ask away. I kind of research things to death !! lol

I too research everything to death.

Despite the research, sometimes you just have to go with your best guess; we bought the Wolf blue interior double wall oven at the same time!

No, Hawaiian island. I have had a Wolf before and love the excellent simmer capabilities on all the burners but must admit that in this case I just like the looks of the Contemporary cooktop. My husband, less so and thinks that installation will be more difficult than a cooktop with the knobs on top next to the burners.

I have one ordered for my new build, no experience with it yet. When I was researching I found a really great thread on here from a women who did a kitchen remodel and had lots of pics of her new install. That thread help me pull the trigger for sure.

Julie Oh man soooooo lucky Hawaii , Maui sigh....... (although Vancouver Island also gorgeous ) Go with with your guts says, and yes like Brent says part of it is a guess. I don't think the install was that tricky if you choose to expose the edge as long as you are in communication with your installer. we opted for this, as we didn't want to chip the countertop .
