AC Temperature Differential High

6 years ago

Hello, I have been testing my TD for my 3.5 ton unit. Below are the results.

At 85 degrees outside

Return 82.6

Supply 57.5

Bedroom vent 61.5

At 88 degrees outside

return 85

Supply 57

Bedroom vent 62

The return and supply figures are from the ducts at the air handler. So the return is the return in the garage going directly into the unit. My return does run through the attic, I am guessing this is why the return air is increasing as the day gets hotter. When I take the measurements at night I get a 79 return.

My TD during the day is 28 degrees at the unit and 23 to the bedroom vent. I have read that it shouldn't be more than 20 at the unit. I have speed on medium and a new fiberglass filter so there is no air clog. Is this an issue? Could anything else be causing the high TD? Or is it just because the attic is getting so hot. Thanks
