Trying to post a picture

Looks like a mature plant, and the leaves are just falling off the stems. Little evidence of new growth. Yeah, those are sick plants. I'm guessing early blight.

Remedies?

If a fungal disease, you don't have good remedies. If you had much plant, you could remove the infected foliage, hope for the best, and treat with a fungicide to protect the rest of the plant. But you don't have a lot of plant. Fungicides like Daconil and Serenade are effective as a preventative -- BEFORE the plant gets affected, but are not clearly effective at killing established infections. The best lesson is to pretreat tomatoes with fungicide as a prophylactic. I used to wave off fungicide on my tomatoes. No can do, anymore. Now I spray religiously, at least every week. Fungal infections on tomatoes are very common.

If it is a fungal infection, your bed is infected as well, and you're going to be fighting it every year. If you don't like fungicides, the answer is to plant elsewhere next year.

A question? Do you maintain a compost pile? If so, did you add any to the soil around your tomatoes when you planted them?

did you fertilize it, if so, with what and how much? it's a bit hard to tell, any closer shots of the leaves?

if it's a fungus, the only thing that could save it at this point is potassium bicarbonate. it's the only fungicide i've used that can kill fungus quickly and prevent any further damage.

BUT it could also be nutrient burn as well..

And in the future, plant further away from the fence, at least 18-24 inches..

That's a good point about potassium bicarbonate being useful again fungal infections. But it has been established that it works best if applied within a day or so of infection. After that the effectiveness is not that high. I think that once the fungal hyphae have penetrated the plant cuticle, it is shielded from fungicidal action. That is, once the disease is well established, it doesn't help much.

HU- I asked a question of you above. Do you maintain a compost pile and if so did you use any of it when planting your tomato plants? I am deep into an interesting research project and would appreciate an answer.
