And one of my favorite hall decors is the lotus flower chandy and the tibetan inscription called “drum” for protection. I vote for this look as it very simple, makes a HUGE statement, will look great in your hall and you can take both with you when you go.

A beautiful, colourful runner on the floor to take the attention away from the stairs. Would it be possible to change the boob-lamp? And hang something more beautiful there?

My children are Asian Judyg but that's not the overall theme in our home although it is very important to me. We have lived in Europe as well so I use things we acquired there as well. I love the "drum" inscription. I don't know if we can change out the lights but I don't think so, I need to find out! Love the ideas!

Carolins, did you mean runner in the hall or entry way? Love the idea!

I meant the runner in the hall, next to the stairs. Don't you have a mirror in the entry? Or in the hall? I think that an attractive mirror above the table in the entry would be beautiful. Or a collection of different mirrors. And the pictures could go further down the hall on the wall.

But a rug in the entry could be good too. I posted the runner before I saw the entry space.

I went from being an Army brat, to a Navy wife, so I understand military housing. Wall decals can become your best friend when you can't paint a room but still want it to have personality. Find something you like that flows with the angle of your stairs, and that may lead you to more ideas.

I have seen some houses where on that flat expanse which you face coming down the stairs, they have placed motivational sayings (still not sure if 'HUA' counts as motivational) and such. I've even seen a dart board, although I wouldn't recommend it. Visit some of the homes of other members in your unit, and see what they've done with their spaces. Military families adapt....and most of them quite well :) I'm sure you will love your space when you get done.

And always remember that unless you can take it with you to your next house, you can probably do without it (except for power converters). Have fun...and thank you for your service :)
