Need help with my Guava tree

last modified: 6 years ago

Hi all,

i need some expert advice here. My friend gifted me a guava tree around 4 Yrs back. It was on a black plastic container. I think it is a grafted one. When I went on a travel, the drIpping system blew out & the plant got totally dried out when we returned back. But, i kept watering the plants & shoots started growing from the base of the trunk. It was in a 15 gal container & even gave couple of fruits in 2018. Common guava - Tiny tear drop shape. Last yr, i planted it in the ground in my front yard. Fertilized with steer manure & fruit fertilizer. No fruit last yr. Now, the tree is around 32“ tall & looks like a bush. Should i remove all tha extra suckers from the base & just keep one or two sturdy branches . It’s hardly growing few inches per yr. i live in Torrance, CA near LA. I see lots of big trees in our neighborhood. I also have 2 more plants in containers. These are the suckers I removed from the mother plant & planted last yr. Again, they are a bit bushy with 4 or 5 branches from the base. I also want to know whether i shoud leave it as it is or, remove sone branches. Pls advise.. Thank in advance & sorry for the long post.
