Please can you show a closer view? There are lots of similar looking plants in the Rubaceae family. It might be Galium aparine. Does it cling to knitted fabric?

I can't be certain without seeing more detail.

Almost certainly Galium aparine, aka cleavers or bedstraw. It pulls out easily in moist soil but also breaks off easily. My pup is forever bringing in pieces of it attached to his fur after doing his rounds of the exterior of the garden where it abuts the greenbelt.

Yes it clings/catches on a sock. The stem is rough on my fingers. Wish I had a better camera to get a real close up, but you have sent me in the right direction, for sure!
