For one thing, ditch the dark color. It looks foreboding and not welcoming. A medium grey/taupe tone would be better. (Not cold like battleship grey.)

I like the "for one thing" - aka, there are many things. I don't know why i like this home it is so ugly. I guess I see some potential . . .

I think the style is Modern. The place looks a bit neglected so I would worry more about the inside. As to the outside, you have to like the roof line as changing that would be quite expensive. I would only change things that are cosmetic. I don't mind this style of house so I would just give it a clean up and add attractive landscaping.

I am with Emmarene in not thinking this looks bad, and if you truly find this architecture unappealing, move on to a different style. I think a taupe shade would not suit the architecture, but having some warmer colored cedar paneling in places and a matching garage door might help. I think a lot of the problem is the landscaping. There is nothing that provides interest in the winter months, so you are finding it a really boring look. Trees may need thinning or limboing up, so get a qualified arborist in to look at them and consider thinning. Add plants with colorful twigs or interesting branching and lots of spring bulbs and shade tolerant flowering shrubs.

With these photos it is difficult to make more suggestions because they are so dark that details are difficult to see.

If you purchase this house, one of the first things you'll need to do is have all the trees within 20' of the structure cut down.

And some others as well. That house looks like a really depressed person lived there... How's the rest of the neighborhood?

Huge trees with large roots too close to the house. They can cause cracking in the walls and foundation, damage to underground pipe, and deterioration of the roof shingles and siding. The trees by the house have to go. Tree and stump removal is expensive. I like the modern style. The house needs TLC so be prepared for lots of $$$$. Get an expert home inspection. Check out your local nursery for landscaping ideas.
