I don't use softener. There is always a little water in the dispenser. So that I don't have to remember to pull it out and empty it at the end of every wash (to eliminate mildew), can I just leave the dispenser out all together? I keep the washer lid open when it's not in use. There will still be a little water in that cavity but it's open and will evaporate. I'm thinking it's not a problem but wanted to get some expert advice before removing it for good.
