It's a bulbous plant, so not a sedge or grass. Could well be a narcissus. If you plant it back in a bed you'll find out in due course ... like next year or the year after.

We did put it back ... but in a garden bed instead of the lawn. Hopefully it'll bloom in the next year or two!

No, they can't. But seeds and bits of bulb get moved about by animals.

Squirrels in particular often dig up and move bulbs to new spots.

Daffodils are poisonous so I'm not sure about squirrels being interested in them. Now crocus on the other hand...

I know, they just devoured my whole planter full of fall saffron crocus before they were even close to blooming. I gave up on trying to grow them in the ground because of moles/voles and figured the container would be the solution...boo hoo!
