We recently renovated our laundry room, which is fairly large. It is also used as an extension of our lower level kitchen.

Therefore, I have 3 separate counter/cabinet spaces. The largest area is the standard 36" high.

The counter top & cabinets next to the W & D, had to be leveled to compensate for the slope in the floor due to the floor drain, and ended up at about 39" high, which I find a little awkward.

During the design phase, I thought I wanted to last area to be 42" high (bar counter height), but I was able to test that before it was done, and realized that it is not a good "working" height.

(All of this will vary according to the how tall someone is.)

I too suspect 42 inches is not a good working height but unfortunately the alternative is to have about 1 foot of working height counter in the corner given my washer and dryer will take up most of the wall and then we will have a sink taking up part of the remaining counter space on the other wall. I am thinking it may be better to go with the counter all one height and get a stool but that is probably not ideal either. Oh the compromises we have to make when renovating.
