Ideas for counters?

I'm considering removing the cabinetry on my island to open up my kitchen, but I'm uncertain about what I would want for counters (now a dark granite on one part and a brown pebbly-quartz on the parts near the window and stove). The first contractor suggested painting the cabinets white. I don't want to do that because I don't want to disrupt the style of the house (lots of wood, arts & crafts vibe). I'd rather work with what I have. Concrete, quartz, marble??

Man-made or natural quartz will be your most durable countertop material ahead of concrete and marble.

Great idea, it will totally open up your space if you make it a giant island, all the same level. I’d pick a whitish quartz with golden veining to connect to cabs.

I love your woodwork and wood cabinetry. So glad you're not caving to the contractor. Love Lisa's sugggestion of white with golden veining.

That's a l-o-n-g island. FYI - Veining / pattern can be "matched" in natural stone (buy book-matched aka book-leaf) slabs. That's not possible in a man-made material.
