Trapezoid bedroom - Help!!

last modified: 6 years ago

Hello everyone!
I have a large trapezoid bedroom with an acute angle opposite to the door. Everytime I try to change the layout of the fournitures, it always feels... Off. I plan to move the bed by the door wall and make some changes by I'm afraid it won't change the awkwardness of the room... Do you have any tips for such a room shape?

It’s hard to tell the layout with just the pictures. It might help to post a layout of the room with all the doors identified, with measurements.

Adrien, it’s a great room! You have ceiling beams! And...you have too much stuff crammed into it. I think that’s what makes any placement feel "off". I don’t know where you live, or your budget, but after a disciplined decluttering, you may find that you don’t need all the furniture, or can consolidate it into a new wardrobe or two. If nothing else, find a new home for the stuff stored above the beams. I wouldn’t be able to sleep with that towering over the bed. And if you draw up a rough floor plan, with measurements and showing the doors and windows, some of the great pros here can give you the best advice. You have the bones of a lovely, romantic room.

    Not a Pro.

Looks like you work in this room. Craft in this room and Sleep in this Room. The suggestion to post measurements of the room to rearrange your furniture will help alot.

Somethings to consider. You do need to pare down, but also consider making what you keep in a pretty way. Using same size baskets on the top shelf, label them to find things. Closed storage. Plant shelf. Under bed storage. Gallery art wall.

Post pictures as you go along and you will get plenty of advice.

With a trapezoid you should consider multifunctional solutions so as not to take up as much wall space and have more flexibility.

In the meantime, I have some suggestions to help and rethinking furniture usage could be your best solution if budget allows.

    - Consider using floor space

    - combo desk and shelving and you will free up more space or an entire wall for clothing storage (See pic after lamp) by removing bedside tables and using something like below which can also function for bedside use. Fasten a swinging lamp for desk or bedside reading

    Clothing and storage solution

    Edit and store away:

    - Place items/books not frequently used in a bin under the bed.

    - Add baskets along the upper shelving to help organize.

    - If/when weather allows, move plants outside.

    - Add a second bin under bed for clothes not worn often or are seasonal.

Once you edit/store/remove unnecessary things and decided on some combination solutions it may help with furniture placement, as you would have potentially eliminated your bookcases, side tables, plants.
