A few Mothers' Day Pics

Hi everyone,

My roses are slowly starting to bloom here in Seattle. I thought you might like to see a few pictures in honor of Mothers' Day.


A bouquet of Versigny (oddly small this year -- probably should have repotted this spring), Aunt Margy's Rose, and clematis Nino.



Prairie Peace, a hybrid spinosissima (I got this from Leonard Heller when he was offering spins via Facebook, but I'm not sure that he does that anymore -- it was a lot of work for him).




A handful of honeywort and calendula with Grandmother's Hat and Abe Darby

      It is really such a nice rose -- I wish it were available in commerce. Amazing how the good ones fall by the wayside sometimes.

      Thank goodness Leonard blessed several of us with Prairie Peace. It's almost impossible to find. Corn Hill in Canada is the ONLY other place that has offered it recently...and it hasn't been on their list in two years.

      Mine bloomed last year, but evidently isn't going to this year. But it's sending up several new suckers/canes. I'll take that, lol. It was the most I've ever paid for a rose, but it was well worth it. It's a fabulous beast, even if I have to enjoy the blooms vicariously this year.

      K S.....I enjoyed seeing your beautiful roses, and what's beginning to bloom for you in Seattle. I'm on Bainbridge and the roses are just beginning in my garden too.

      I'd never heard of honeywort before...it's gorgeous!!! The color made me gasp! Oooh!!! I love your Prairie Peace...hadn't heard of that one before either.

      Prairie Peace is new to me also, and I like it a lot! I've only ever grown one hybrid spinosissima, Suzanne, and Prairie Peace reminds me of it a lot, except for the color. I remember being entranced by its wild-rose fragrance, which I can still recall decades later.

      I was charmed to see a bloom of Aunt Margy's Rose, and I hope it's doing well for you. I'm always surprised that more people don't grow this pretty and fragrant little rose.

      Ingrid, I have Aunt Margy's rose because of your pictures of her -- what a charming and floriferous rose she is. I agree that it ought to be more widely grown!
