I think I’m seeing wood floor in one of the pictures, if this is the case I would run the tile in the same direction. One issue I do see is in the hall ways, the tile size seems large so you might end up with some narrow tiles. Also with the large tiles the floor needs to be level as you don’t have any forgiveness when using large tile. I’ll be watching for what you decide. All the best

the wood floors in the adjacent rooms run lengthwise to the room. so the room on the left runs north-sputh, and the room at the north runs east-west

(weird that your wood floors run two directions, as they should be perpendicular to the underlying joists)

short answer: doesn't matter, and you probably won't notice it after the first month. I lean "long way down the hall," in part because that's also the long way for most of the spaces. but it's close to a coin-flip.

I always lay the tile horizontally as you cross over the doorway. I'd go with the 36 inch side going from left to right. You last 2 photos. I think the other way is going to look like a bowling alley.

If you want to visually foreshorten the hall then crosswise. If you like the length of the hall and want to make more of it, then lay them lengthwise. I also like the idea of laying them parallel to any wood you already have, but someone said there are two directions for that, which I'm not seeing. My preference is lengthwise.

thanks! some of the cuts with the larger tile and the angled openings were a real challenge. took my very experienced tile contractor an hour, and 8 seperate cuts just for one. happy he took the time to make it right!

That tile cut is amazing!!!! Having wasted a few tiles just to do a diagonal on small square tile, I can't imagine doing this.
