At long last - Jared Takes a Wife

It seems as if I've been talking about this quilt forever, but it's only been a year. I finished the top last September, and today it's quilted, bound, labeled and ready to go to a dear friend of my daughter. I have known and loved her for thirty years, and I'm so excited to give it to her. It is one of my favorites. It has been a real stinker to finish. I quilted a gather into the back that I didn't see until I was binding it. That's a first for me, but I was able to work it in so that after it was washed, I couldn't even find it. I tried a new method of joining the binding at the end, and it only took me three tries to get it right. I ran out of 505 adhesive to make the label, tried glue (which jammed my printer) and had to run to Jo-Ann's to get more 505. Then the label faded. Oh, well, it's done and I know she will love it. She's seen photos of the top. The picture is a little dark, because the sun is setting, but I wanted to post it tonight.

      You certainly do make some beauties! Another one for the list.

      i had some issues making labels this week too. First one through the printer came out very faint. Then I realized I had to clean the print heads. Next sheet caused a paper jam. Third time a charm. I do the 505 thing too, but as an extra step, I secure the leading edge with a strip of masking tape. and Bob’s your uncle. I have used all my Bubble Jet so have to wait until lockdown is over to go shopping.

      Lois I love that - then again I love all your work. What do you mean by "working it in" on the gather in the back? I'm asking because this has happened to me before and it is so aggravating to find it after the quilting is all done. If I'm not giving it to anyone it's not as bad but don't you know if you have plans of giving it everything bad will happen to it.

      Rita, what I meant by "working it in" was this. The gather was pretty small, maybe 1/8" deep, so I ripped out the offending quilting, luckily only one four inch line, and steam pressed the area. Then I requilted it from the back side, making sure I didn't catch the same fabric again. After washing, It wasn't noticeable at all. Phew!


      After looking at the label after washing the quilt, I think I'd better make another. Rats! I thought I was finished with this one.


      Oh, and I forgot. When I took out the backing that I had bought last fall, I found out that I had bought about a quarter yard too little. Luckily, I had a piece of the border left, a piece just big enough. So the back has a big stripe across the middle. A design choice, right?

      Yay, Lois! Beautiful quilt. I really like this pattern, but I hate making those pointy units and joining them.

      What a beauty! That pattern has often caught my eye, but definitely need to add it to my list.


      Try hand embroidering the label. When I make one, I do that. It's quick and gives it a handmade feel.
