Thanks! Live wire oak, are you sure? I did find a comment on an amazon review where someone asked about that moen drain and a rep from american standard said it would fit.

• The American Standard 1583.470 drain spec sheet shows that it has a height range between 17" and 19" and a width range between 6-1/2" and 9" (dimensions shown in bold type).
• The Moen 90480 drain spec sheet shows that it has a height range between 12" and 22-1/2" and a width range between 5-3/4" and 12-1/2".

As the Moen's height and width ranges exceed those of the American Standard drain, it should fit.

wdccruise, I have a question about that illusionary. I've seen comments on reviews that folks got a $35 piece and it did much better...made me wonder if it was this one. The 12" makes me wonder though, if it would be too short for that overflow? Thoughts? Have you used this one?

If you look at the schematic of the Illusionary drain, you'll see that the two pipes are 1-1/2" Schedule 40 PVC pipe. The the pieces of pipe supplied with the drain weren't long enough, you could buy a piece of this pipe at Lowes (I couldn't find it on the HD website) and cut it to whatever size was needed.

That $130+ Kohler drain isn't supplied with any pipe; you have to provide your own.

Hmmm...okay, after looking at everything and reading about this...I think I'd like a 'plumber's pack' or half kit with a polished nickel drain that's lift and turn and a 2 screw drain cover and the sanitary tee thing a ma-bob. Then I can buy some Sch 40 pipes that can be cut to length.

With all that said like I think I know what I"m talking about....this should work, right? Even tho the tub is 14" which is a higher overflow hole, the drain is 6.5 " and most all just universal, so having the bits and pieces with quality parts and just adding the pipes should work. Right?

I you're talking about Illusionary 493244H-05 plus the PVC pipe, I think that's what you need. I hope amateur advice-givers are exempt from liability for goofs!

And I'll add this. I spent at least a month, reading every single review on the Amer. Stand. Americast Cambridge tub. The reviews were AWFUL with warnings of 'Do not buy this drain!" Over and over again. I can't hardly believe AS hasn't changed whatever the issue it. But honestly, folks shouldn't lose heart. It's easy to get the correct plumber pipes and fittings to create your own drain. All you need is the above types of parts. That push and lock drain has been functioning in another house for about 12 years with no issues. It have great faith in it!

I hope others can see a way out of this dilemma like we did. We love the tub and now love the drain and overflow.

Mecoda, I"m also glad you found this thread! I kept reading reviews on amazon, ferguson...everywhere and they were just awful. I actually went to plumber info sites to better understand the inner workings of a drain and overflow to understand how on EARTH a simple drain and overflow could generate such animosity.

I hope that works out well for you. We did buy the sanitary tee and the piping.

So happy I found this post. We actually have that American standard drain system on the American standard Princeton tub and I hate it. We've never had toe tap installed because it always clogs. But we're getting the Cambridge for new house and I want different drain. Are you still happy with set up?
