I ended up using something else.

Seal Once is the product. I applied it last May. Seems to have held up for 9 months so far.

and now?

4 months since the last update, still holding up. Water does not bead up as well as when it was new. But the wood appears to still be protected. I'm planning on re-coating next May. At least the stairs, because they get the blunt of the weather and everything else is mostly protected.
