Lovely video very helpful and informative. I made two this winter, plus the layens frames.

I soon learned, from expert Layens beekeepers on the beesource forum that the layens frames have a major flaw.

They need to have the top bar thinner or the sides cut out to allow for upper pass thru for the bees like the Langstroth do. Then use cover boards like the Long Langstroth plan to keep them enclosed.

It makes working the bees much easier if you can lift up a cover board and look down on where the bees are, watch them without disturbance, feed them easily, and do a sugar dust or other mite control.
