Thanks Ken. What do you think I should do with the half-and-half leaves/sections? My GUESS would be that those will eventually go all green?

Just got through digging and separating a large Striptease that seemed to be both reverting to Gold Standard and sporting into yet another generic green, all at the same time.

sports are fun to play with ... just separate them.. and watch ...

the half and halfs ... when you bare root it.. see what they are attached to ... just try to get a clean piece of DW for the future ...

i never really liked slicing them apart if i could avoid it ... but sometimes that is what you need to do ... but you dont know.. until its dug up ...

and dont forget.. throw them all on the driveway for an hour ...to teach them who is in charge around there ... actually.. i think letting cuts or torn part.. a chance to dry before replanting.. is never a bad thing... i suspect it allows the plant to start callousing over the insult ...

I've had issues trying to grow Dick Ward in my yard. I got a very healthy plant which was quite large so I divided it 3 years ago. One died last summer and now the other doesn't look good either. They are in different garden beds. Is this a difficult hosta to grow or did I just have bad luck since other hostas in both beds are doing fine?

Miles,is it possible that the division itself caused the issue? I don’t know enough to answer that, unless what Ken said above, about allowing the cuts or divisions dry out could be the reason????

I just pulled the plants apart when I got them and they did fine for 2-3 years. Last year one died and now the other is struggling to come up. I really like the hosta and should have left it together. Perhaps I will get another and put it in yet another bed to see what happens.

Brother Stefan looks just like Dick Ward (to me) and in my opinion it grows a bit faster. But I would not call it a fast grower. For 2017 Brother Stefan was named Hosta of the Year. They look identical in my garden, but bloom at different times.
