Garage vs Carport with Shed

I’m at a crossroads with my garage. I’ve lived here 3 years and have been avoiding deciding what to do with it. The shingles are done, little black crumblies are all over the place especially after rain, wind or snow storms. The garage door is heavy and finicky to open. I don’t know if I should just replace the roof, shingles and door or just knock the whole thing down and build a carport with a shed at the back for my riding mower, snowblower, bikes etc. Or build a new garage. Or get a prefab garage. Note: I do use the garage to park my car in and the back part is a large barn-type area where I store the mower etc.

IMO the back piece needs to ripped down it is IMO not worth saving.You have a garage and a piece on the side that does not work as a carport so why not use that space for storage . What is wrong with the garge door if it doesn’t work replace it and then a matching style door on the storage space . Is the actual garage in good shape not counting the back piece? I think we need some more info. So neew roofing on the actul garage and closing in that side piece I think would be doable

If you rip it down you could build a two car garage with space for the mower.

I have kind of the opposite view than Patricia. I would get rid of the side piece and keep the front as a garage and the back as a shed. Fixing will be far less expensive than ripping it down and replacing the whole thing. Looks like you have a fair amount of yard and need the shed for equipment.
