Companion planting cucumbers and tomatoes

Hi

I grow vegetables among my perennials in cottage garden. Since I move locations from one year to the next, I don't really have major pest battles beside the squirrels

Advice on companion planing is driving me batty. Some sites say NEVER to grow cucumbers beside tomatoes, others say it doesn't matter.

I reserved a spot for cucumbers, that aren't quite ready to go out yet, beside a trellised cherry tomato. I use marigolds and nasturtiums as companion plants in that area.

What, really, is the correct information about growing cukes near tomatoes? I figure that they'd go well together, as they have similar water, light and food requirements and can be maintained easily.
