How many slabs were used and were they from the same lot? Maybe the island slab was from a different lot than the perimeter?

If you and your wife are not happy, insist on a change. You’ll always regret not getting exactly what you want.

Did you see all the slabs that were going to be used for your job? If they all looked the same, then a mistake was made in your job.

Take off one of your white drawer fronts, or a door, and place it next to the island for a better comparison of the 2 countertops. Perimeter counters always get more shadows.

Can you take a photo from further back? What is your lighting?

Those look totally different.

The only saving grace is that many people do different counters on perimeter and island. If we didn’t know, we would think it’s intentional.

That said, of course you should complain. I wonder what their excuse will be.

These pics are in better lighting during the day. As you can see, slightly less difference between the two in daylight. Still a slightly darker tone one the perimeter. May end up being a good mistake now that we’ve slept on it. My sister is a kitchen designer and she said she’s been designing kitchens with different tones on island and perimeter, that it might actually play out to be a good mistake.

We did select the slabs though and it seems that when we did, the one behind the other may have been slightly different and we didn’t notice.

Something else she mentioned that it’ll break the monotony of white cabinets and white elongated subway tile backsplash. Having that tone in the middle will break it.

You’re lucky in that it looks intentional and really nice!

It’s the lights. Turn in additional

lighting. Specifically a halogen work light.

Have you ever seen this? The two grays are the exact same color, it's an optical illusion caused by the different in the surface they're shown against.

In addition to lighting, the perimeter cabinets are white and the island is dark. I would think that also affects your perception of the countertops.

They look the same to me, you have shadows, and dark paint swatches over the main surface, just wait till you plug in the under cab lights, then the island will look darker lol.

@crcollins1_gw that's crazy! I had to copy the shapes into PowerPoint to test that for myself.

OP: I think your kitchen is looking beautiful! In the picture facing toward the windows, the counters look very similar to each other.

The nice thing about the remnant test is that it can take subjectivity out of it. It can be a slam dunk either way, or it can at least let everyone see how much different the pieces are.

@User, undercabinet lights have yet to be installed and the recessedl lighting isn't in yet either. I'm sure it will make things change quite a bit once all that is finished. Backsplash being installed will change things on that perimeter counter as well.

@RL Relocation LLC My wife and I have been hanging on for as long as possible. The leak happened in October of last year lol Insurance kept dragging its feet for as long as they possibly could. The positive thing, brand new kitchen and they've taken on the expense. We're almost there and can't wait to see it done.
