Furniture Woodworking Design Dilemma

Coating for Wood Dining Table

We are having a custom walnut table made and have a choice of coating it with Rubio Monocoat or Osmo Poly-oil. I would like to learn more about pros and cons of each and any personal experiences. I have two young children and this will be our every day table in addition to a "show piece" so durability is important.

IMO the best with kids is a piece of glass to cover it . Walnut is a lovely wood but not good for abuse and kids can really do a number on wood tables or do what my Mom did and cover it with flannel lined plastic table cloth unless we were having guests.
