Kitchen Remodel Layout Help

I have been a very long time lurker and am finally starting a kitchen remodel. Looking for comments and suggestions on design. I have worked with an architect as we have moved some stairs and modifying some doorways. The original kitchen is being completely redone, as prior owners enclosed a patio to provide more living space, but kept the kitchen in the interior of the house. Essentially I am trying to make the kitchen be more the "heart of the home" . The house is fairly large on a nice tidal creek. Across from the breakfast table is a slider to a deck overlooking the water. The picture with the fridge next to the pantry is what the architect has drawn up. I don't love the fridge placement, so have an alternate idea, shown in the other picture, with some dimensional info. I plan to have a large workstation sink in the island and will be most likely getting Monogram wall ovens and induction cooktop. I wonder if it would look better from the family room if I put the ovens next to the fridge? Refrigeration is also real conundrum for me. I have planned the 42" french door built in, but not sure if freezer will be too small, as family of 5. I can go larger but worried the size will overwhelm the space. Appreciate all of your insight.

I would stick with the original layout. Generally the fridge is not a feature. if it was along the run against the rh wall I would have it at the end

That’s a big kitchen with a very very long island. You will certainly get a lot of exercise
going from end to end, back and forth. The first plan is better than the second: three
appliances spaced like that on the long wall leaves no useful counter space.

It all looks really tight to me. Can you show the layout of the whole floor?

I like the architect's location for the fridge. I'd suggest getting rid of the weirdly shaped island, the island/bench configuration, and the barn doors, which take up space needed for traffic. Go with a traditional rectangular island with a traffic aisle from the double doors. Use one door for the laundry room, and make the pantry door 28" wide, even if the shelves to the right need to be made a few inches shallower. Or, move the fridge, and the closet behind it, in line with the island, and make the pantry wider (second drawing), unless that space already exists, and would be difficult to change.

I centered the cooktop between the beams and moved the ovens over. The space to the right of the ovens could be used for a separate upright freezer, coffee station, drop zone, or whatever works best for your family. I also drew the vent hood 6" wider than the cooktop, for a wider capture area.

Ditch the curved island and the bench seat. Make it a standard rectangle. You could build in a bench under the window from casing to casing, with a larger table in front of the bench. As currently drawn, that small four foot table will not allow for enough seating for a family of five. And the breakfast area space will be better utilized if you go with my recommendation.

Thank you for the suggestions, especially with the island and bench. I was wondering if I was doing too much. The big window is actually a slider and I have been concerned there would not be good clearance for access. I also had not really thought of a separate freezer. A question with the access to bonus and mud room. I had originally thought the barn door would be good because I did not want to move the existing mud room door and then have to change the hardwood to tile to match. Do you think it would be fine to have the coat area in hardwood and then transition to tile? Not sure I can get a match on it. Also, I cannot put bonus room door at the top of the stairs. I could make it a pocket door instead? I also appreciate pointing out the drop and various zones. I realize I don’t have a good coffee/bar spot in the original plan.

Oh, sorry, I had the doors confused, probably because I rotated your plan to fit my drawing program. Do the stairs to the bonus room go down? Maybe use one barn door, since I assume it will be closed most of the time (or why even have one, if not?) That will still save a couple of inches.

If the sliders open in the center I don't think there will be space for a separate table, so add a 5th seat to the island (red). You could add two feet to the island, but then you'd probably need a second slab, and a seam.

I think the different flooring will be OK, especially if there is a change in wall placement (closet) to signal separate areas. But--if that's something that will really bug you, you could use part of the closet for a pocket door. My crew wouldn't even bother to close the door. ;)

Mama goose_gw, the stairs go up to a room over the garage. It will be the movie/kid family room. The reason for the door is that it has it’s own cooling system, plus I don’t want the pets randomly going up there. The door for the mud room is also for pets, and to provide some insulation when running washer and dryer.
