Need help with Pigmy Date Palm

I recently bought a Pigmy Date Palm cluster from the store. It had its center, new growth fronds chopped and the leftover ends had dried up. I pulled them out from the center as they were rotting and now I have green fronds around the base but a hole where my new growth was. Will the Palm die or will it push out new growth eventually?
