Contender peach tree dropped all fruit

last modified: 6 years ago

My wife and I picked up a nice contender peach tree a couple of weeks ago, about 6'-7' tall. We're in 5a. It already had peaches on it about the size of a nickel. Brought it home and had to keep it in the garage for a few days due to late frosts in the twenties every night. I think it was 4-5 night of these temps iirc. Brought it out of the garage once safe and placed in a part sun area, everything looked fine. Then we had to go out of town for a funeral for a few days and when we came back all the peaches had dropped. I did find some on the ground, both uneaten and with bites out of them, but I didn't find any that were completely eaten. No damage to the tree itself and no bugs or leaf curl. Could it have been the cold temps or being in the garage with less light? Will/could it produce another crop this year and should I fertilize with something to promote fruiting? Thanks.
