Whatever it is, looks like it will be a good one. Yours looks like it has shiny leaves, Diamond Lake doesn’t look shiny to me, Waterslide isn’t shiny either. Let’s see what the experts say 🧐

Sherry..it doesn't look exactly like either one does it?..the pic is deceiving..it was very wet (can you tell by the concrete?)..but as you say "whatever it is" I like it..

I am not sure.....in the HL Diamond Lake looks so blue and the leaves seem more round then spade shaped, which is how yours looks to me. But maybe with time that will change somewhat. Also, from the pic your plant looks more green than blue. Sorry

debra..no need to be sorry!..I checked the Proven Winners site to see if I could ID it..the ones I took screenshots of were the only 2 with similar traits..but I do like it..in person it's more blue than green..

debra..I checked the hosta library (good idea)..I think mine looks like the top pic..to me mine looks more like the hosta library pic than the Proven Winners pic..

I am surprised it didn't have a name on it. If it is marked blue, variegated, etc. then it is an unnamed variety and enjoy it for what it is (also see if a tag is deep in the pot). Whatever you do, do not give it a name if you plan on selling any divisions of it in the future. This is how confusion sets in on any plant family with people who say it is X and another saying it is Y and a third claiming it is Z. I see this all the time when it comes to begonias for example. A lot of unscrupulous folks will sell sister plants disguised as the real thing.

hc..I think there was a tag originally..it was probably pulled out by a customer and then lost..there's a sticker on the pot but no tag..the sticker has no name..the Proven Winners Wheee hostas next to mine had a sticker and a tag..I don't sell plants..I'll plant my unknown and maybe someday it will be bigger and identifiable..

since the blue is a waxy glaucous waxy coating.. are any blues shiny? ...

i havent had my first sip of coffee yet ... so i might regret that comment ...

ken..I agree..the leaves are dry now..let's see if these new pics help..there's faint purple at the base of the petioles..the leaves aren't shiny..and sitting by a boxwood and hellebores you can see that it's blue..

there is no purple tissue in hosta... if you rub off the waxy coating .... you will see that it is red tissue ... just like if you rub off the wax.. you will find that all blue hosta are green underneath it ....

it is not uncommon.. to see shiny leaves on plants... if they are watered by overhead watering system.. especially if fert is included in the water ... the watering basically wears off the wax.. and the fert can stick to it.. making it look milky.. or ugly ...

nichols, did any other hosta look like it at the store? If so I would go back to get the name from another pot or were they all like the one you bought? I noticed our HD stores' hostas these last couple of years have just a generic name so I just pass them by. UNLESS there was some kind of appeal to them for a second look. HAHA!

ken..I posted the pics to show that the leaves have a matte finish..they do right?..

hc..I tried..there were just 2..no tag on either..I even looked on the table and the floor for a loose tag..then later at home I called other Home Depots..I asked people to look for one like mine to see if it had a tag..since it was a Proven Winners it wasn't a huge search..one store had zero Proven Winners..not one store had one like mine..some people were somewhat knowledgeable..they followed what I said..some were clueless but nice..I tried but didn't get an answer..

Nw, I agree it looks more blue once the leaves dried. Don’t know what it is but with maturity it might become clear. Keep us posted!

Nice one nw! It does look much bluer when dry and it does have that twist at the tip that is so attractive. It certainly appears closer to Diamond Lake than Waterslide. Both are terrific.

This is a young Diamond-Lake from the Fransen site, This would be my guess.

I grow both. Definitely more like Diamond Lake. Here's my young Diamond Lake from early May. Its more blue now.

peren..the ruffled edge (even a slight one) is a trait that I like..it adds a little pizzazz among my many simple leaves..

mbug..I agree..I wish it was Waterslide but Diamond Lake will be a nice addition too..

steve..I love it..a nice fountain shape with perfect leaves..mine's a little leggy and has rips now..but next year (if we can avoid frost!) mine could be pretty too!..

I have Waterslide and I'd say the leaves are proportionately longer and narrower than your mystery hosta.
