Hi Diane. I think your instinct is right on, a glazed ceramic tile would be a better choice than marble here. Would you consider picking up some of the gray tones from your stone for the backsplash tile? The other option would be to match the beautiful color of your cabinets.

(not a pro) First, I love your counters! Second, it might help others if you include a picture from further away. Finally, on many threads I've read here, it's not the best idea to mix a stone backsplash with a different stone counter. It looks like your cabinets are creamy white? If so a cool white might not be the best idea. Maybe look at pale grey.

So hard to choose. I had a hard enough time with the countertop LOL. The cabinets were custom made by my talented husband. They are painted White Dove by Benjamin Moore. The granite counter top is leathered finish.

I agree. Marble is not the right choice with this granite.

What a beautiful space. If the paint color is BM OC-17 White Dove, you’d be looking more for something like Tusk, below. But you really just have to look at a bunch of different whites in your space to find the right one.

The two white tiles I am looking at have a bit of a wave to them to add some interest....one is honed and the other is polished. My countertop is leather finish.

Obviously white is the safest choice, but I don't want it to be too bland....I am going for the farmhouse look. Maybe I can do a light gray grout??

I’ve seen the wavy white subway tiles. If you like the look I think it’s a good option, but another one would be to choose a tile with a pretty shape or an interesting finish.

I hadn’t noticed the bead board! I agree with eld, classic white subway tile that matches the paint on your cabinets. Let us know how it goes!

As mentioned before, you have granite and you don't mix another type of stone. (marble) with it. Your husband did a beautiful job on the cabinets. You want your counters to be the star here so pick a nice subway tile to make that happen. I would keep it very simple (can be handmade), but would't do a detailed shape as some have suggested above. With the bead board cabinet doors and the granite, you need something "quiet" to bring the two together.

I agree with Design Girl. Simple glazed tile to complement the cabinets will do the trick. Your drop-dead-gorgeous countertops are the star. Keep the backsplash simple. Depending on your budget, handmade creamy tile could be stunning.

Agree with keeping the backsplash more simple so not competing with the countertop. I would not do a shiny finish on the backsplash since you have a leathered finish on the countertop.

i agree with everyone, no mixing stones, keep it simple. if not fond of subway, u can do 4x4 or 6x6 squares. i am in favor of a hint of color here - green, blue, gray whatever u like to breakup all the white and give it a little something. nothing shiny, nothing fancy. i think it will very hard to exactly match your cabs. when they don't, it all looks 'off'.

There’s nothing wrong with mixing real stone with real stone, as long as the two stones compliment each other. I have a Thassos (marble) backsplash and an Azul Aran leathered granite countertop in my kitchen. My designer and I both love it :)

Went to the tile store today....these are my new choices thanks to everyone's help....Ironically, the white subway tile is handmade and the line is called Cape Cod....I didn't notice until I got it home....it's my fav place....so this may be a sign. Glossy white or Matte white and

Hard for anyone to really know how it looks in your kitchen but the second one looks the best on my monitor.

This is going to sound like a broken record.....but nevertheless.....your backsplash should probably be a solid tile in a color which matches one of the colors in your counter material.
If it doesn’t match something in your counter, it will always clash. The wrong white, the wrong gray, an additional pattern....the pattern or the color will just be wrong.

Do white or a very light grout- don’t exaggerate the grout lines- you have busy granite (which as I’ve stated i have as well so I’m not being judge!)

I like any of these (you don't have to do a white. and please, no 3x6 white subway tiles!!

I like the grays better than the whites. (if your cabs are an off white, doing a regular white subway is going to make them look dingy. so go w/a darker color) these are from Tilebar too. Vectorized Antracita 4x8
